We are Eileen and John and exhibition budgerigars have been a part of our lives since the early 1970's.
Our original stock, all those years ago, came from Reg Watts, with outcrosses added from Marjorie Kirkby Mason and Rick Watts. Those names probably tell you that we've always enjoyed keeping lutino's and albino's and the three breeders referred to, probably had the best redeyes in the world at the time.
Today, we keep many colours and variety's. However, we would always have between one and two hundred redeye's in our birdroom.
Our original dominant pieds and opalines were purchased from Eric Lane and our normals from Ormerod & Sadler, with outcrosses added from the Pilkington's. Lines were established from these legandary breeders.
In more recent years, we've built lines based on some of the world's finest bloodlines. We have very strong Lutolf, Molkentin , Mannes , and H&M lines, with quality in depth.

We've enjoyed much show success with our budgerigars over the years, winning many 'Best in Show', and 'Best Breeder in Show' awards at the very highest level, both in Ireland and the U.K. In 2008 and 2009, we won the 'All Ireland Budgerigar Championship's'. In 2008, at only 5 shows entered, we won 46 major specials with 26 different birds. In 2009, at only 5 shows entered, we won 41 major specials, with 32 different birds. We are also delighted to say, that in the same year's, birds we sold, won an additional 7 'Best in Show's', in both Ireland and the U.K. Amongst others, we won the 2008 National Young Stock Show, with a baby albino, and also won 'Best in Show' & 'Best Owner Bred in Show' at Cork, 3 years in succession, in '07, '08' & '09. However, we enjoy breeding exhibition budgerigars, more than showing them, and over the years, have sold many top quality budgerigars that have provided many other exhibitors with 'Best in Show' awards. Indeed, many of the budgerigars shown on this website, have been sold to other exhibitors, or will be !
We enjoy nothing more, than seeing, or being told, of yet another exhibitor, who has just won a 'Best in Show', with one of our budgerigars, or with a bird bred from one of our budgerigars. We are pleased to say, that this happens quite often.
This lutino cock has won 3 'Best in Show's', 2 'Best Breeder in Show's' and 8 C.C.'s !!! We love him !!!

Non Profit Making !
Neither, Emerald Avicultural Supplies, nor Emerald Budgerigars, are profit making ! The reason being, that any profit made, is passed onto Bird Society's, in the form of sponsorship. During 2007 and 2008, we provided Bird Society's in Ireland, with over seven thousand euro's in sponsorship. Indeed, one national bird society in Ireland, would not be in existance today, if it were not for the sponsorship money that it received from Emerald Budgerigars.

We supply everything from cages to crop needles and are agents for all the leading avicultural supply companies. Our extensive supply of supplements and medicines, attract customers from many countries and our own label quality seeds, are probably the best quality and value available anywhere ! We even have customers in the U.K. for our seed ! In addition to our own seed, we supply the full range of 'Versele Laga', 'Country Wide' and 'Haith's' seeds.

The Birdroom
Our birdroom is generally of concrete and glass block construction, being approximately 70'-0" long x 20'-0" wide and consists of ..............
- Entrance Reception, with visitor seating area, flat screen T.V. and Coffee/tea machine
- Visitor toilet/washroom
- Visitor Showroom
- Preparation area with dishwasher etc
- 2 breeding rooms. One having full height clear view walls to outside
- 4 flight rooms (or suites as we like to call them). Each being fitted with hot & cold showers and isolation alarm systems
- Quarantine & sick room with infa-red wall panels
- Store room and plant room
- Seed store room
- Plastic wall and ceiling panels throughout all bird occupancy area's
- Floor tiles throughout
- Dust extracting system throughout
- Recessed fade-in & fade-out lighting throughout
- Emergency lighting system throughout
- Central heating and hot water system throughout
- Fire alarm and smoke detector system throughout
- C.C.T.V. recording system covering inside and outside
- Intruder alarm and music system
- Guard dogs perimiter pen
We have 60 all wire breeding cages ; stock approximately 500 exhibition budgerigars, depending on the time of year ; and would normally breed 350 + exhibition budgerigars a year.
